Breath - Pause - Check In - Think - Respond
I ran a workshop today.
It included lots of ideas from previous posts. Each time I said a new point from the flip charts or from my head I took a breath and paused and gave some space and time for it to sink in for them and also time for them to respond. I loved all these pauses it slowed me down.
The group discussed the benefits of using this technique with their own children - so before we respond we role model / socially coach them how to do it - breathe -pause - check in - think - respond
In class I often talk to the children about taking a breath before they respond. I get them to stand up like strong guards and ground their feet to the floor and stand tall and straight and take a breath. I encourage them to visualise being in different situations where they could use this empowering posture and breath.
Next time at the start, I'm going to to a 2 minute relaxation/meditation so the group have a chance to check in with themselves and get rid of their busy morning baggage before we begin.
