An activity for children to quiet themselves -
Ask them to close their eyes and place a hand on their heart. Let them imagine a special place that feels safe. It may be their house, under a tree, in their mother's arms, under a bed. Have them picture it vividly in their minds.
What does it smell like?
What objects are there?
Can you touch them?
Have the children feel the safety and sense of being special. Tell them that this safe place is always there waiting for them in their heart. All they have to do is breathe and know it is there. Use this safe space exercise during relaxation so children don't fear letting go or visualising. Ask them to share the story of what they saw and felt during the exercise.
See a little butterfly, fluttering from flower to flower. Finally the butterfly finds a nice flower and rests. It is quiet, beautiful and happy. Imagine the butterfly completely still. Smile at the butterfly. Smile at yourself.
